I'm Alex and welcome to my little corner of the internet! This space is a journal of my kitchen adventures. Why The Flavor Flow? When I'm in the kitchen, I'm finding my creative flow by discovering flavors that fit together just right. They could be as classic as peanut butter and chocolate, strawberries and cream, or as weirdly wonderful as chicken and waffles, miso and cinnamon.
Growing up in the US and then moving to Hong Kong has allowed me to experience lots of different flavors and textures. I used to be a super picky eater, I can proudly say I'm a slightly less picky one now (although I still don't like chicken feet 鳯爪). I owe my more adventurous palate to my many years living in Hong Kong, where there is so much culinary diversity there's even a joke that the people here eat 'everything'. While I don't quite eat everything out there, I love exploring different dishes, along with the culture and stories behind them.
I think that's why I find food so intriguing - it's inventive, inspiring, creative, comforting and exciting in a way like nothing else. I mean, who wouldn't get a little giddy seeing a plate full of brownies? (Only crazy people). That's why I find so much joy creating delicious things. Not only is it fun and relaxing for me, but I also get to serve up tasty treats to friends and family. Right now, I'm currently doing all my cooking and baking in a super tiny kitchen, where my mighty little convection oven sits on a shelf in the living room.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy exploring all the flavors you'll find here!
Some extra bits about me:
- When I'm not flowing in the kitchen you'll find me flowing on my yoga mat.
- I'm originally from California but Hong Kong is home now.
- I believe there's always room for dessert.
- I love dogs. Cats are okay.
- Mustard is my favorite color, not a huge fan of the condiment though.
- My travel itineraries are entirely based around eating
- Dim sum must-orders: char siu bao and har gow.
- I don't like coffee. Tea please.
